Emergency Tips for Water Damage
WHAT TO DO
(1) Call Dry-Mark at 877-379-6275.
(2) Stay calm. Help is on the way.
(3) Shut off water source if possible and avoid contact with water from unknown source.
(4) Be careful of slippery surfaces, especially where carpet and hard surfaces are connected. Note: Slip and fall is the #1 cause of injury on a water damage job site.
(5) Wet, heavy dry wall can fall from ceilings. If safe, poke small holes in ceiling to allow draining of trapped water (do not attempt near wires, lights, ect…)
(6) Do not attempt to clean up sewage unless you have been trained and have personal protective equipment.
(7) Remove as much water as possible by mopping and blotting the saturated area.
(8) Open closet doors, furniture drawers and luggage to aid in drying.
(9) Turn on air conditioner if damage occurs in summer.
WHAT NOT TO DO
(1) DO NOT wait to call for professional help. The longer you wait the more damage will occur.
(2) DO NOT use your household vacuum to remove the excess water.
(3) DO NOT go into any room with standing water if the electricity is on and do not use electrical appliances while standing on wet flooring or carpets.
(4) DO NOT lift tacked down carpet without professional help as this could cause damage and shrinkage.
(5) DO NOT go into any room where the ceiling is sagging Don't leave wet fabrics in place. Hang furs and leather goods.
(6) DO NOT leave books, magazines or other colored items on wet carpet.
(7) DO NOT use television or other household appliances.
(8) DO NOT turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet, and keep out of rooms where ceilings are sagging.
